Catalina is one of the most popular diving destinations in the world given that it hosts more than one million dives per year. It also happens to be home to The Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber. The chamber is available for treatment to injured divers who need it 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber relies on additional sources of revenue to maintain it’s functionality to divers in need. That’s where Chamber Day comes into play. Chamber Day is held annually on the 1st Wednesday of May. This Event helps fund the efforts of The Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber to protect all divers.
A donation of $110 dollars will get you 2 dives at Santa Catalina Island, a tour of the USC Catalina Island Hyperbaric Chamber, a Chamber Day 2019 Commemorative t-shirt, 5 Chamber Day 2019 Raffle Tickets, and a chance to talk to local search and rescue personnel. As well as the knowledge that your money is going to a great cause.
Although Diving is incredibly safe due to technological improvements, things can still go wrong. Studies show that 69% of diving accidents are caused by diver error. With this in mind, the importance of Hyperbaric Chambers is immeasurable. 2019 will be the 45th year of the chamber protecting divers in Southern California.
It is a community effort to maintain The Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber and events like Chamber Day are vital in maintaining its usability. Scuba.com has donated several thousand dollars to The Chamber as well as Scuba Gear and certification classes. Hundreds of volunteers also donate their time for the day to day upkeep that comes with maintaining The Chamber, as well as organizing an annual event.
All proceeds go directly to the Chamber. Your contributions are appreciated and help keep the chamber operating throughout the year.
